The Story Behind How I Started Making Oil Pastels

My family’s art supply store was founded in Osaka in 1920.
For more than 20 years, I served artists there, learning the quality they truly demand.
Some colors and sizes cannot be made by machines or factories.
When manufacturers said it was impossible, I chose to make it by hand.
That is how BIG OIL PASTEL was born — my answer to what art materials should be.

Each color blend is carefully hand-pressed into our proprietary molds, one piece at a time, shaping the pastel with the same attention we give to mixing the pigments themselves. Finishing Finishing

Once each pastel is molded, I wrap it by hand, one by one, in its own paper sleeve. Lining up all one hundred colors and placing them into the box — that is the moment a single work of art iscomplete. I pour the same care into this final step as I do into every step before it, so that when it reaches your hands, you can feel as much thought as there is color inside.
